A
Local first
Open models running on your own laptop or server handle most everyday work. Your data doesn't have to leave the building, and there's no per-query bill.
Local AI + cloud AI, used with intent
Kopute builds small, sharp AI tools for the specific, niche problems that off-the-shelf software ignores. We run models on your own hardware when we can and in the cloud when we need to, so you get answers quickly and at low cost.

Frontier API
Why Sensitive text, routine task. Run it locally.
Then A person reviews the result before anything ships.
01 / Approach
Most AI products try to automate people away. We think the better bet is AI that removes the drudgery and leaves judgment with the people who have it.
A
Open models running on your own laptop or server handle most everyday work. Your data doesn't have to leave the building, and there's no per-query bill.
B
Every task goes to the smallest model that can do it well. Larger cloud models only come in for the hard parts, which keeps costs predictable.
C
Kopute drafts, sorts, and extracts. You review, decide, and sign off. The tool earns your trust one approved result at a time.
02 / In the field
Photo Organization, Recall, and Tagging, a Local Application
Designed during an internship with Los Angeles City Council District 15, P.O.R.T.S. L.A. turns a camera roll of street issues into a batch of 311 reports. It reads each photo's location and time, pins it on a map, and recognizes what it shows, such as an abandoned vehicle, illegal dumping, or a streetlight outage. A person checks every result before anything is sent to MyLA311.
Detected report type
Illustrative mockup with sample data. Nothing here is sent to MyLA311.
Drag in a batch of field photos. Location and time come from each photo's EXIF data, and every report is pinned on a map.
A local model suggests the report type for each photo, right on your computer.
You confirm or override every suggestion, and can group several photos of one dump site into a single ticket.
Approved reports are filed through the 311 API in one batch, and the map can be exported as a CSV.
For council offices, neighborhood councils, and city teams that file 311 reports in bulk.
03 / How it works
Step 01
We sit with the people doing the work and find the repetitive, specific task that eats their week, whether that's a messy spreadsheet, a stack of PDFs, or a backlog of forms.
Step 02
We build a small tool that does one job well. Local models handle the bulk of the work, and a cloud model is called in only for the steps that need more capability.
Step 03
You get a tool your team runs and checks themselves. Every output is reviewable, every step is explainable, and you can switch it off at any time.
04 / Use cases
Some examples of the kinds of work Kopute is designed to take on.
Hundreds of public comments arrive before a hearing. Kopute groups them by theme, flags the unusual ones, and drafts a summary that staff edit and sign off on.
05 / Why hybrid
| Cloud-only AI | Local-only AI | Kopute | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data privacy | Data leaves your network | Stays on-device | On-device by default |
| Cost | Pay per query, adds up fast | Hardware only | Mostly local, cloud only for hard parts |
| Capability | Strongest models | Limited on hard tasks | Routes to the right model per step |
| Fit to your work | General purpose | Do-it-yourself | Built for your specific problem |
06 / FAQ
It means running an AI model directly on your own computer or server instead of sending your data to an outside company. Modern open models are small enough to run on a good laptop and handle a lot of everyday work.
That's not the goal. Kopute tools take on repetitive, mechanical parts of a job, like sorting, extracting, and first drafts, so people can spend their time on judgment, relationships, and decisions.
Only when a step genuinely needs more capability than a local model can offer, and only with data you're comfortable sending out. You decide where that line is.
Usually not. Many tools run on a recent laptop. For heavier workloads we'll recommend a modest setup that fits your budget.
Specific, repetitive tasks that eat up time: messy documents, recurring reports, data cleanup, triage, and lookups. If you've ever thought "there should be a tool for this," it's probably a fit.
